Worship
The Sunday Worship Service is the centerpiece of UUCOV'S faith community and provides the opportunity for all members, friends and visitors to come together as a community to hear inspirational and intellectually stimulating sermons on diverse topics that are consistent with UU's Seven Principles.
Sermons are provided by our UUCOV minister, Don Beaudreault, on most Sundays. Guest clergy, guest speakers, and members speak when the minister is away from the pulpit.
Responsibilities of the Worship Committee are as varied and numerous as our membership! They include:
- Carefully selecting guest clergy and speakers to assure a meaningful service is provided every Sunday.
- Assuring that music is an essential part of our Sunday service through the Music Sub-committee. Under the direction of our Music Director, Deborah Berioli, an accomplished professional classical vocalist, opportunities are available to sing in our choir, play an instrument, or just join in as the congregation sings several hymns each Sunday. For more information email Deborah at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
- Assuring the Sanctuary is a warm and welcoming place for all who attend our Sunday service. The Sanctuary Décor Sub-Committee strive to further enhance the environment by assuring that the chancel has fresh flowers each Sunday, often donated by a member in memory of a loved one. This group also assures that any decorations are simple and appropriate and that the sanctuary is in order. Those interested in becoming involved in this sub-committee can contact Bobbie Gleason or Juan Rivera.
- Coordinating with Anne Cederberg, our RE Program Assistant, on Words For All Ages, a story, for our children at the beginning of service, that relates to either the subject of the day's sermon or to our Seven Principles.
- Confirming that there are hosts to guide the service on Sundays when our minister is not speaking.
- Making everyone, visitors, new members and current members feel welcomed is a highest priority for UUCOV. To that end, we enlist members as greeters and ushers, who welcome all who attend and assist in making sure everyone has a comfortable seat. For more information, please contact Dave Williams.
- Lively conversation and fellowship is a hallmark of UUs – we enjoy coffee and conversation after the service.
For those interested in working on the Worship Committee, please join us on the first Monday of each month from October through May at 12:30pm in Waters Hall. You may also contact co-chairs, Serena Cannarelli or Lori Baribeault for more information.
