Green Sanctuary
In April of 2010, a newly energized GS committee was granted permission by the UUCOV Board to Trustees to pursue Green Sanctuary Certification from the UUA. The Committee realizes that it is the process of applying for Certification that is truly important and that if and when certification is granted that is only the beginning of the work of the committee. Every member of the church is a participant in the GS Program. The Committee simply acts as catalyst for promoting the goals:
- To help make the physical plant of UUCOV as earth friendly as possible by modeling sound environmental practices in all the congregation’s activities and functions
- To educate and encourage the congregation to be as earth friendly as possible by making personal lifestyle changes
- To provide environmental education for our youth
- To reach out to the local Community in meaningful ways to promote environmental justice
- To motivate members to community action on environmental issues

Green Sanctuary News
From the Green Sanctuary Committee
Last Spring, Francesca Lund heard about a grant that Home Depot gave to the Montessori school next door for work on making their property more environmentally sound. She contacted Home Depot and asked about applying for a grant for our congregation. Bill Dowling offered to help with the paperwork. They assessed our needs and began filling out an application. They spent considerable time and energy following through the lengthy process of bringing the work to completion.
On February 2, Bill and a great crew of UUCOV volunteers – with a little help from a professional contractor – installed the new windows in Waters Hall that HD had donated. On the same day Bob Allen and his crew put in some new plants
